Singapore Premier League champions Lion City Sailors FC announced on Wednesday that former Buriram United FC coach Mark Jackson will take over at the club once employment visa formalities have been completed.
The 48-year-old, who led Buriram United to the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ title in May, has signed a contract with the Singaporean outfit until June 2027.
"I'm incredibly honoured to be joining this fantastic football club,” Jackson said in a club statement. “I'm looking forward to getting started, meeting the players, staff and supporters, and becoming part of the club's journey.
"The ambition and vision of the club were major factors in my decision to join, and I'd like to sincerely thank the owner, board and Director of Football for the trust and confidence they have shown in me to lead the team.
“There is a huge amount to look forward to, with an exciting season ahead. We'll work together, push the standards every day and give everything to achieve our ambitions.”
Jackson takes over as the replacement for Jesús Casas, who left the club on September 1 after guiding Lion City Sailors to the league title last season.
The Englishman brings a track record of success to the club having won the AFC Cup, A-League Championship and A-League Premiership in 2024 with Central Coast Mariners before winning a treble of trophies with Buriram United last season.
In addition to helping the club retain the Shopee Cup™, Jackson also steered Buriram United to the Thai League 1 crown and the Thai FA Cup during his 11 months in charge.
Varo Moreno has been in charge of Lion City Sailors on an interim basis since Casas’ departure, leading the club to a 2-0 win over Tampines Rovers FC in the Community Shield on Sunday. He will remain in charge until Jackson’s visa has been processed.
Lion City Sailors have been drawn in Group B of the Shopee Cup™ and will begin their campaign against Công An Hà Nội FC on October 8.
