ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ holders Buriram United FC have named Spaniard Raúl Caneda as the club’s new coach, replacing Marió Silva.

Silva’s departure from the role was announced on Friday after less than two months in charge having taken over from ASEAN Shopee Cup™ winning coach Mark Jackson at the start of September.

The 57-year-old Caneda brings a wealth of Asian football experience to the role, having worked in Saudi Arabia with Al Ittihad Club and Al Nassr FC as well as spells with Qatar’s Umm Salal Sports Club and Khor Fakkan Club in the United Arab Emirates.

Caneda’s most recent role was with Chinese Super League outfit Zhejiang FC in the 2025/26 season.

His first task will be to prepare the team for the AFC Champions League Elite encounter against Kashima Antlers at the Thunder Castle on Wednesday.

Buriram United’s next game in the Shopee Cup™ will be against Ho Chi Minh City Police FC on November 18. The club drew 0-0 in their opening match in Group A against Borneo FC Samarinda last month.
