Singapore, 11 June 2025: Buriram United FC will need to add an extension to the club’s already-bulging trophy cabinet after the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ winners enjoyed their most successful campaign ever in 2024-25 as Osmar Loss’ squad completed an unprecedented quadruple.
The club from northern Thailand, who defeated Công An Hà Nôi FC of Vietnam in a penalty shoot-out to win the inaugural Shopee Cup final last month, added regional dominance to domestic superiority after a remarkable season in which as they also retained their Thai League 1 title as well as winning the Thai FA Cup and Thai League Cup.
Buriram United also reached the quarter-finals of the revamped AFC Champions League Elite, defeating Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim on the way to the last eight, to underscore the club’s status as the region’s leading lights.
“I’m really happy with the achievements we are getting here in Thailand,” says Brazilian coach Loss, who took over as Buriram United boss one year ago after a two-season stint with Iranian giants Persepolis.
“I decided to move from Iran after being champions there to come to Thailand to open the market in this area of the country, and we are doing great. I’m really happy with the atmosphere, the environment that we create with the players, with the president.
“I couldn’t ask for better things than this. Buriram has an amazing history. We have amazing foreign players, we have the top Thai players too. The most important thing is to join the good players and have one unique idea to win.”
Buriram United have made winning a regular habit over the last 12 months, with Loss’ side claiming a remarkable 42 victories in 61 matches across five competitions to collect those four trophies. Only eight matches ended in defeat.
Building a squad capable of handling the rigours of such an arduous season has been key to Buriram United’s success, with club president Newin Chidchob working to provide Loss and his coaching team with the tools required to dominate at home and abroad.
Foreign stars such as ex-Premier League goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and Brazilians Guilherme Bissoli and Lucas Crispim have dovetailed with Thailand stalwarts Supachai Chaided and Sasalak Haiprakhon as well as Suphanat Mueanta, who came through the club’s academy.
Despite having an array of talent at his disposal, Loss has had to manage his resources wisely while also dealing with the expectations of a fanbase that demands continued success.
“If Buriram win, it’s not enough,” says Loss. “This is one point that we have talked about all the time, with the players and the president, everybody has the same feeling.
“This atmosphere that we have created to be champions, to win and to win and to win makes the difference. We can do nothing without the players trusting in our ideas and plans.
“When we chose the players to come we check before how they are about playing here, because playing in Buriram is different to playing in another Thai club,” says Loss. “We are not in a small city, but we’re in a city where we are really focused on playing.
“The city lives around Buriram club and to build this situation for the coach is easy, because it’s not only my job. The president does this job all the time, the president’s wife does this job all the time.
“The experienced players we have here, who have played 10 years, 12 years for Buriram, they grew up knowing this.”
While Buriram United enjoy a well-earned break off the back of the club’s most successful season in their 55-year history, Loss is already targeting even better results in the coming campaign.
Buriram United’s accomplishments, he says, are “like a new agreement, and when you have a deal you create a new agreement for next season. Next season we will think about this, and we can do better.”
Buriram United will begin the defence of their Shopee Cup™ when the 2025/26 tournament kicks off later this summer. More information about the new season will be made available in the coming weeks.
