ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ champions Buriram United FC rounded off their 2024/25 campaign in style as stoppage-time goals by Guilherme Bassoili and Dion Cools secured a 2-0 win over Lamphun Warriors FC in the Thai League Cup final on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Lion City Sailors sealed a domestic double in Singapore after edging BG Tampines Rovers FC 1-0 in the Singapore Cup final.
Buriram won the inaugural Shopee Cup final on 21 May after a dramatic victory over Công An Hà Nội FC of Vietnam and they were seeking a fourth trophy of the season in the Thai League Cup final after also lifting the Thai FA Cup and Thai League 1 titles.
Lamphun Warriors finished eighth in Thai League 1 and they suffered a big blow in the fourth minute of the final at Pathum Thani Stadium when striker Fabinho was sent off for a bad challenge on Buriram defender Ko Myeong-Seok.
Despite dominating the game, Buriram were unable to make their numerical superiority count until second-half stoppage time when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Dion Cools.
Guilherme Bissoli converted to give Buriram the lead and Cools put the result beyond doubt when he slotted home a second in the closing seconds of the match to seal his side’s eighth League Cup triumph.
Lion City lifted the Singapore Cup for the second season in a row after a narrow win over league runners-up Tampines.
Lion City were in the ascendency for much of the game at Jalan Besar Stadium and they went ahead early in the second half after Maxime Lestienne’s low cross picked out Bart Ramselaar, who fired into the roof of the net.
Tampines had a goal by Itsuki Enomoto disallowed for offside and they went close to a late equaliser when Seia Kunori’s close-range effort struck the crossbar.
In Vietnam, Shopee Cup runners-up Công An Hà Nội came from behind to beat Becamex Binh Duong in a V.League 1 match.
Nguyễn Thành Nhân put Bing Duong ahead early in the second half but goals by Vitao, Alan Grafite and Lê Văn Đô secured the three points for Công An Hà Nội, who moved up to fourth in the table.
League leaders Nam Dinh FC have a five-point lead over second-placed Hanoi FC and need only two points from their last two games of the season to seal the title.
