Phú Thọ: Captain Win Theingi Tun scored a hat-trick as Myanmar claimed a 3-0 win over Timor-Leste in Group B of the ASEAN Women’s MSIG Serenity Cup™ 2025 at Việt Trì Stadium on Sunday that put Tetsuro Uki’s side on the cusp of the semi-finals.
The win was Myanmar’s second in a row at the competition after starting with a 2-1 victory over Australia on Thursday and takes the nation onto six points from their opening two matches.
Win Theingi Tun’s determination in front of goal was the difference between the teams, although Timor-Leste kept Myanmar at bay for the majority of the first half.
Shwe Yee Tun blazed her eighth-minute shot over the bar from 12 yards out and four minutes later the midfielder headed over the target from even closer range.
Myanmar went closer still in the 30th minute with Shwee Yee Tun again involved, this time cutting the ball back from the byline which eventually ended up at the feet of Win Theingi Tun, whose curling right-foot shot came back of Gorette da Deus’ left post.
Win Theingi Tun was unmarked when she volleyed over the bar from eight yards out four minutes later and Khin Mo Mo Tun then hit the post after being put through on goal by San Thaw Thaw’s incisive pass from deep.
Myanmar’s opener finally came with a minute left in the first half, San Thaw Thaw bursting down the left to deliver a pinpoint cross towards the edge of the six-yard box that Win Theingi Tun headed home.
Gorette denied Win Theingi Tun a second seven minutes after the restart from close range but the forward struck again in the 55th minute, showing fine individual skill to bend a right-foot shot into the top corner of the Timor-Leste goal.
Win Theingi Tun completed her hat-trick with a 62nd-minute penalty, stroking the ball confidently past Gorette after being upended in the box by Tasia Canizio as Myanmar picked up all three points.
