DH Cebu FC head coach Glenn Ramos called on his players to push for victory against ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ Group A leaders Selangor FC as the Philippines Football League side go in search of their first points of the 2025/26 campaign on Wednesday.
Cebu have yet to pick up a point having lost against both Tampines Rovers FC and Công An Hà Nội FC and take on the Malaysia Super League outfit at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila determined to turn their Shopee Cup™ fortunes around.
“Since our last match in Vietnam, which we lost late in the game, the players have responded well,” Ramos said of the 1-0 loss in Hanoi. “It was disappointing, but the performance showed our fighting spirit.
“We know this match is very important because we need to push for three points in this competition.
“The players have been working very hard in preparation, especially from a mental perspective. They are highly motivated, and we are focused on improving our playing style as well.
“This competition is a big challenge for Philippine clubs. Playing against strong teams from other countries helps us understand where we stand. It pushes us to improve, to focus on our game, and to raise our level as a club and as a league.”
Selangor have made the journey to Manila with an undefeated record in the competition so far after a draw with Shopee Cup™ holders Buriram United FC and a win over Tampines Rovers.
The match is the first in the competition for interim head coach Christophe Gamel, with the Frenchman having taken over in the aftermath of Katsuhito Kinoshi’s departure in September.
“We are happy with how things are going so far, but we know we must continue to work very hard,” said Gamel. “Recovery is important, and the players must be ready to give everything again. Every match in this competition is demanding.
“This match comes after a difficult period for us in terms of schedule and challenges, but we must continue to move forward. The work we are doing now is about building consistency and continuing our development.”
Making their debuts in the Shopee Cup™, Selangor will enter the match with their confidence high as they defeated DH Cebu 1-0 (home) and 4-0 (away) in the AFC Champions League Two last season as they seek to maintain their unbeaten run in the group and push for place in the knockout phase.
