Singapore, 29 April 2025: Indonesia’s PSM Makassar will take a slender 1-0 lead into the second leg of their ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ semi-final against Công An Hà Nội FC from Vietnam on Wednesday as the teams resume their battle for a berth in next month’s inaugural final.

A solitary goal from Yuran Fernandes is all that separates the sides going into the return clash at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi following their first encounter at the Gelora B.J. Habibie Stadium in Pare Pare on 2 April.

Fernandes’ 80th minute header came after the defender had earlier upended Công An Hà Nội captain Nguyen Quang Hai in the penalty area, but Alan Grafite saw his spot-kick saved by Reza Arya.

The loss in the opening encounter between the teams was Công An Hà Nội’s first defeat in the competition after picking up five consecutive victories in the group phase as Mano Polking’s side topped Group B.

Công An Hà Nội bounced back from that defeat by hitting a strong run of form in domestic competition, with three wins and a draw in their last four games.

Victories over SHB Đà Nẵng and Hoang Anh Gia Lai plus a draw with Ho Chi Minh City have moved Công An Hà Nội up to sixth in the V.League 1 standings while a 3-1 win over Hai Phong has taken the club into the semi-finals of the Vietnamese National Football Cup.

Second-half goals from Phan Van Duc, Bui Hoang Viet Anh and Hoang Van Toan earned Công An Hà Nội a victory last Tuesday over Hai Phong that ensures the Vietnamese side will go into the second leg in confident mood.

In contrast, PSM’s form has stuttered with Bernardo Tavares’ side winning only one of their three matches leading into the second leg.

A 2-0 victory over Semen Padang, which came through goals from Aloisio Neto and Nermin Haljeta, was followed by a 1-1 draw with Borneo FC-Samarinda and a 1-0 loss to Bali United last Friday that leaves PSM searching for form ahead of the return fixture.

Haljeta is PSM’s leading scorer with four goals and sits alongside Công An Hà Nội’s Leo Artur and Le Van Do and BG Pathum United FC’s Raniel in third position on the scorers’ chart. Safawi Rasid of Terengganu FC and Lucas Crispim from Buriram United FC top the list with five goals each.

The winner of Wednesday’s clash will take on either BG Pathum United or Buriram United in the final on 14 and 21 May.

Buriram United lead 3-1 in the battle of the Thai League 1 outfits after the first leg at Buriram City Stadium, with the return meeting at BG Stadium in Pathum Thani on 7 May.
