Buriram United FC head coach Mark Jackson praised his team after securing a 4-1 win over Tampines Rovers FC on Wednesday that kept their ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ title defence alive.

The win was the Thai League 1 leaders’ first in the 2025/26 edition and came through Shopee Star of the Match Guilherme Bissoli brace alongside strikes from Suphanat Mueanta and Goran Čaušić as Buriram United moved up to third in the Group A standings with one match remaining.

“We knew coming into this match that we needed a win, and that was our objective,” said Jackson. “I am pleased that we scored four goals.

“We said before the game that we wanted to be more attacking and creative, and I think we showed that tonight. It was disappointing to concede late on, and that is something we are still working hard to improve, but overall the most important thing was achieving the result.

“The players worked extremely hard in difficult conditions, and I am delighted with the three points.”

Buriram started the competition with three draws but the win in Singapore means Jackson and his team will qualify for the semi-finals with victory over DH Cebu FC in front of their own fans on Matchday 5 next Wednesday.

“This win puts us in a good position, but there is still work to be done,” said Jackson.

“We will analyse this match, look at where we can improve, and prepare properly for the next game. We have a strong group of players who want to learn, get better and give everything for the club, and that mentality is key for us moving forward.”

Tampines Rovers had gone into Wednesday’s clash at Jalan Besar as Group A leaders and remain in contention for a top two finish and a place in the semi-finals despite the defeat.

The Singapore Premier League side have dropped to fourth in the standings but are only two points behind Group A leaders Selangor FC ahead of their game against already-eliminated Công An Hà Nội FC next week.

“I see this as an important learning experience for us,” Tampines Rovers assistant coach Robert Eziakor said after the loss, in which Taufik Suparno scored a late consolation for the hosts.

“Now we will regroup, look back at this match and prepare properly for the final group game. We will see where we stand after that, but the focus is on responding well and finishing the campaign strongly.”
