Bangkok United FC coach Totchtawan Sripan credited a series of half-time tactical adjustments for his side’s come-from-behind 2-1 win over Shan United FC in Pathum Thani on Thursday in Group B of the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™.
Myat Kaung Khant gave the visitors a seventh minute lead before Rungrath Phumichantuk levelled 17 minutes later, while an own goal by Nanda Kyaw 21 minutes from time secured the points for Bangkok United, who picked up their first victory of the 2025/26 competition.
“For today’s match, we made several changes compared to the previous game,” said the former Thailand international midfielder.
“We adjusted the starting line-up to allow some younger players and those who have not had many minutes to get an opportunity, while also ensuring there were experienced players on the pitch to help control the game.
“Shan United approached the match differently from what we expected, particularly with their formation, which made the game more challenging early on.
“We conceded the first goal, which made things harder for us, but we managed to respond well and score the equaliser before half-time.
“During the break, we made some tactical adjustments, and the players followed the instructions very well in the second half. That allowed us to take control and score the winning goal.
“Overall, we achieved what we wanted — our first victory in the Shopee Cup™ — and I want to thank the players for their effort, commitment and attitude.”
Rungrath’s equaliser launched Bangkok United’s come back and helped earn the Thailand international winger the Shopee Star of the Match, but he gave credit to his colleagues for their part in his the victory.
“Personally, I’m very happy, of course, but all the credit goes to my teammates,” he said. “Football is a team game, and everything I did today was possible because of the support, instructions and effort from everyone on the pitch.
“Even if one player stands out, the result comes from the whole team following the game plan and working together. I’m happy that we achieved the result we came here for today.”
