Yangon: Cambodian Premier League champions PKR Svay Rieng FC handed out a 3-0 defeat to 10-man Shan United FC of Myanmar at Yangon’s Thuwanna Stadium on Thursday to make a winning start to Group B of the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ 2025/26.
Min Ratanak put the visitors in front in the 11th minute and Shan United’s Ryuji Hirota was sent off seven minutes later before goals from Patrick five minutes into first half stoppage time and Kwame Peprah with a 53rd minute penalty secured the points for the Cambodian side.
The win takes Svay Rieng to the summit of the early Group B standings, where Mattthew McConkey’s side lead Johor Darul Ta’zim FC on goal difference after the Malaysian side handed Lion City Sailors FC of Singapore a 3-1 defeat in the day’s opening game.
Svay Rieng went in front when Patrick unlocked the Shan United defence, the forward driving down the left flank to deliver an inviting cross that Ratanak coolly side-footed home from three yards out.
Seven minutes later, the hosts hopes were hit further when Hirota was dismissed, the Japanese midfielder earning a direct red card after clashing with compatriot Ryo Fujii in an off-the-ball incident.
Patrick went close to adding a second deep into stoppage time when he accelerated past Hein Phyo Win, only for Kyaw Zin Phyo to save the shot with his legs as he covered his near post.
From the resulting corner, however, the Brazilian forward did find the back of the net as he emerged unmarked to nod Yudai Ogawa’s delivery into the bottom corner.
Peprah was awarded a penalty four minutes into the second half when the Ghanaian was upended in the area by Matheus Souza and, although Kyaw Zin Phyo saved the initial effort, referee Ko Hyung-jin ordered a retake that Peprah converted, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
