Buriram: Defending champions Buriram United FC rescued a point from their ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ 2025/26 Group A opener on Wednesday a late goal from Peter Zulj secured a 1-1 draw with Malaysia’s Selangor FC at Buriram Stadium.

The Austrian midfielder’s header six minutes into injury time saw Buriram United’s intense pressure late in the game pay off and earn a draw against a valiant Selangor side, who had taken the lead through Brazilian striker Chrigor in the 38th minute.

Selangor created the clearest openings in the first 45 minutes despite Buriram United dominating possession and it was the Malaysians who took the lead.

Zach Clough had gone close to netting when he bent a free kick towards goal, only for his strike to fly the wrong side of Chatchai Bootprom’s left post, while Ko Myeong-seok was called upon to prevent Noor Al Rawabdeh putting Selangor in front with a fine block.

Chrigor marched towards goal in the 25th minute, the Brazilian unleashing a right-foot shot from 25 yards that fizzed past Chatchai’s goal. Sandy Walsh then threatened at the other end for Buriram United, but his header was blocked by Mohammad Abualnadi.

While Buriram United had dominated, it was Selangor who carried the greater attacking threat and, seven minutes before the break, the visitors went in front as Al Rawabdeh slipped his pass into the path of Chrigor and he crashed a first-time shot beyond Chatchai.

Buriram United increased the tempo after the interval and Guilherme Bissoli almost levelled when he was played in behind the defence, but Kalamullah Al Hafiz made a fine save with his feet to maintain Selangor’s lead.

Bissoli pulled the trigger on another effort in the 68th minute, the Brazilian dragging his shot from 25 yards wide of the Selangor goal. Moments later Robert Zulj side-footed his attempt against the inside of the post with Kalamullah beaten.

Kalamullah made a fine double save, keeping out Suphanat Mueanta’s initial effort and then blocking Bissoli’s close-range effort as the hosts continued to crank up the pressure.

Buriram United’s relentless pressure paid off in the sixth minute of injury time when Peter Zulj met a corner from his brother Robert, powering a downward header across goal and beyond Kalamullah to secure a draw.
