ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ holders Buriram United FC have parted company with head coach Osmar Loss, the club announced on Tuesday with former caretaker boss Emerson appointed in his place on an interim basis.
The Brazilian departs having led Buriram United to the Shopee Cup™ title last season with a dramatic extra-time victory over Vietnam’s Công An Hà Nội FC in the final as part of a unique quadruple for the club.
In addition to the Shopee Cup™ success, Loss led the team to a domestic treble of the Thai League 1 title, the Thai FA Cup and the Thai League Cup while also taking the club into the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League Elite.
Buriram United are currently fifth place in Group A of the Shopee Cup™ standings having started the campaign with back-to-back draws against Selangor FC and fellow Thai League 1 side BG Pathum United FC.
The club lead the Thai League 1 standings by three points from Bangkok United FC after winning six of their opening seven games, with the final match under Loss ending in a 2-2 draw with BG Pathum on Sunday.
Emerson will take charge of the team until a long-term replacement is found. The 52-year-old previously worked as interim coach for two matches prior to Loss’ appointment in May 2024.
