Bangkok United FC advanced to the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League Two on Thursday as a 2-2 draw with Australia’s Macarthur FC sealed a 4-2 aggregate win for the 2025/26 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ participants.

The Thai League 1 side will be joined in the next phase of the continental competition by Singapore’s Tampines Rovers FC, who eliminated Công An Hà Nội FC as a 3-1 second leg win over the Vietnamese side sealed a 6-1 aggregate victory in their meeting.

Bangkok United and Tampines Rovers will meet in the last eight next month, with the winners facing off against either Gamba Osaka from Japan or Ratchaburi FC from Thailand in the semi-finals.

Bangkok United went into the second leg of their clash with Macarthur holding a 2-0 lead and two goals in the opening 33 minutes from Muhsen Al Ghassani put Totchtawan Sripan’s side in control of the tie at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

Walter Scott pulled one back for the home side in the 41st minute and Harry Sawyer headed in a second for Macarthur in stoppage time, at the end of the game but Bangkok United had done enough to advance.

Tampines Rovers, meanwhile, progressed after Công An Hà Nội’s victory in the first leg last week was overturned by the Asian Football Confederation due to the fielding of an ineligible player, meaning that the Singaporean side went into the second leg with a 3-0 lead.

Hide Higashikawa scored in the 36th and 60th minutes to tighten Tampines Rovers’ grip on the contest and, while Alan Grafite reduced the deficit from the penalty spot in the 77th minute, a third goal from Trent Buhagiar sealed the win.
