Buriram: Buriram United FC coach Osmar Loss will look to use the experience of his squad to overcome Công An Hà Nội FC in the second leg of the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ final on Wednesday as the teams resume battle after last week’s 2-2 draw in Hanoi.
The Thai League 1 champions twice came back from behind against the fast-starting Vietnamese side at
Hang Day Stadium to earn the draw and Loss believes his players can build on their performance in the
opening encounter to claim the inaugural title on home soil.
“We didn’t have too much time to work specifically for this game,” said Loss, ahead of the match at Buriram
Stadium.
“Everybody knows we have a tight schedule. We played two days ago in the semi-final of the Thai League
Cup, but I think we have experienced players in this squad and the information we talked about, more than
what we have done in training on the pitch, was important.
“The difference is that we understood how aggressive Công An Hà Nội were in the first half (of the first leg),
how aggressively they pressed us and the space that we could use in that moment.
“In the second half we started to use this space, so if tomorrow they use the same strategy we will be ready
to handle this aggression.”
Công An Hà Nội claimed an early lead in the first leg when Brazilian forward Leo Artur struck in the 18th
minute, although Buriram United’s Australian defender Curtis Good levelled 10 minutes later.
The Vietnamese club restored their advantage through Alan Grafite in the 35th minute but Peter Žulj’s goal
11 minutes from time earned Buriram United a hard-fought draw that leaves the outcome of the final in the
balance.
Công An Hà Nội have not played since last week’s first leg and coach Mano Polking has brought an injury-
and suspension-free Công An Hà Nội squad to Thailand for the second leg. The Brazilian has vowed to
utilise once again the game plan he implemented to great effect in the first leg.
“We have the same squad as the last time, the same players from that game,” said the former Thailand
national coach. “We brought everyone today. It’s a special day tomorrow, there’s nobody injured, nobody
banned so it’s the same as last week.
“I don’t think we will change too much the approach. We liked the way the game was going. We didn’t get the result, which means we still need the result and we’re going to go the same way.
“The most important thing from the first leg was to see that we were competing in that game. It was a
beautiful game where two very good teams had a great game.
“For us it was very important to feel the energy from our fans and we could cope with the level of the game.
We expected a better result, but it’s half time and we want to continue where we left off and hopefully, we can win the title here.”
