Selangor FC have announced the departure of head coach Katsuhito Kinoshi with immediate effect, two days after a 4-2 win over Tampines Rovers FC took the club to the top of the Group A standings in the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™.

The Japanese coach, whose team had kicked off their Shopee Cup™ campaign last month with a 1-1 draw against defending champions Buriram United FC, has been replaced on an interim basis by Christophe Gamel.

“Selangor FC has relieved Katsuhito Kinoshi from his duties as first team head coach, effective immediately,” the club said in a statement issued on Friday.

“Selangor FC would like to thank Katsuhito Kinoshi for his effort and commitment to the role throughout his tenure.”

Kinoshi had been appointed in November last year and it was his first time as a head coach having previously worked in Japan, China and Serbia as an assistant to Dragan Stojković.

Wednesday’s win over Tampines Rovers in the Shopee Cup™ came after Selangor had suffered consecutive losses in the Malaysia Super League, against Kuching City FC, and versus Bangkok United FC in the AFC Champions League Two.

The club’s next game is against Lion City Sailors FC from Singapore in the AFC Champions League Two on Wednesday. Their next match in the Shopee Cup™ sees them face DH Cebu FC from the Philippines in Manila on December 3.
