Bangkok United FC registered their first win in Group B of 2025/26 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Myanmar’s Shan United FC in Pathum Thani on Thursday.

Myat Kaung Khant gave the visitors the lead in the seventh minute but, after Rungrath Phumichantuk levelled 17 minutes later, an own goal by Nanda Kyaw 21 minutes from time handed the three points to the hosts.

The result moves Bangkok United onto four points from four matches while Shan United complete their group stage commitments rooted to the bottom of the standings after a fifth consecutive defeat.

Despite facing the prospect of finishing in last place in Group B it was Shan United who started brightest, opening the scoring in the seventh minute.

Forcing a turnover inside their own half, Aung Wunna Soe was played in down the right and he whipped in a dangerous cross that Ye Yint Aung was unable to connect with at the near post.

But the resulting deflection off defender Nitipong Selanon fell perfectly into the path of Myat Kaung Khant and he made no mistake from close range.

That goal stung Totchtawan Sripan’s side into action, slowly taking control of the game as the opening period wore on.

The home club deservedly claimed an equaliser midway through the half via Rungrath, who capitalised on a scramble in the box after Shan United had failed to deal with Pratama Arhan’s long throw.

Japanese striker Seia Kunori was a threat throughout, involving himself in Bangkok United’s best work before a hamstring injury saw his night end prematurely. But his replacement, 18-year-old Pichaiya Kongsri, injected a spark and helped set up the winner.

A clever piece of skill from the youngster drew a foul from Ryuji Hirota and, from the resulting free kick, the Thai side went ahead when Pyae Phyo Thu could only parry Pokklaw A-Nan’s effort into the path of Arthur De Moura.

While Pyae did well to block the Brazilian’s effort, the ball was deflected off the feet of Nanda Kyaw who, with little time to react, bundled the ball into his own net.
