Hải Phòng: Forward Karnjanathat Phomsri scored twice as Thailand cruised to a 7-0 win over Indonesia on Wednesday, ensuring Futoshi Ikeda’s side made an impressive start to their ASEAN Women’s MSIG Serenity Cup™ Group A campaign at Lạch Tray Stadium.

Madison Casteen, Pichayatida Manowwang, Janista Jinantuya, Pinyaphat Klinklai and Thawanrat Promthongmee were also on target as the Thais, runners-up in 2022, signalled their intent to reclaim the title to the rest of the competition.

The four-times champions made light work of Joko Susilo’s side and will next face Cambodia before closing out their group stage commitments against hosts Vietnam in their quest for a place in the semi-finals.

The Thais went in front in the sixth minute and never looked back, converting when Indonesia’s defence struggled to clear a high ball into the penalty area and Karnjanathat nodded a looping header past Laita Roati.

Thirteen minutes later Ikeda’s side doubled their advantage through Casteen, whose right-foot strike from 25 yards out beat the flailing Indonesia goalkeeper to her right.

The third came in the 27th minute when Karnjanathat struck from the penalty spot, the Thai forward picking herself up off the turf to score after being upended in the area by Rosdilah Nurrohmah.

Thailand’s fourth arrived with five minutes left in the half as Karnjanathat drove an inviting low centre across the face of the Indonesia goal from the left and Pichayatida was left with a simple tap-in.

Ikeda’s side continued to pour forward and struck again a minute later, Janista calmly volleying home Pluemjai Sontisawat’s perfectly delivered cross from the right.

The Indonesians steadied themselves in the opening exchanges of the second half, with Laita keeping out Janista’s attempt at the end of a driving run 13 minutes after the restart.

But the second half resistance ended with 19 minutes left as Pinyaphat threw herself at Parichat Thongrong’s free kick into the area, heading in from six yards, while Thawanrat rolled home the seventh from close range moments later to cap a comfortable win.
