Buriram: Buriram United posted a commanding 4-0 victory over Borneo FC Samarinda in the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ on Thursday to move up to second in the Group B standings.
Lucas Crispim opened the scoring the 25th minute at Buriram Stadium before Guilherme Bissoli added a second just two minutes later and Marcelo Djalo made it three without reply for the Thai champions on the stroke of half-time.
The hosts continued to dominate after the interval and netted a fourth with five minutes to play through Rattanakorn Maikami to complete the scoring and move three points ahead of their Indonesian opponents.
Buriram started on the front foot and had their first sight of goal in the second minute when Curits Good spotted the run of Supachai Chaided down the left before the striker created space to cross for Bissoli, whose header was comfortably collected by goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata.
Nadeo was called upon again midway through the half, this time to keep out a Supachai header following a Narubadin Weerawatnodom cross from the right. But it wasn’t long until Buriram found the breakthrough.
In the 25th minute, Theerathon Bunmathan slipped a lovely ball to Narubadin on the right and his first-time cross was expertly sent home by Crispim from six yards out for his fourth goal of the campaign.
And the hosts doubled their advantage shortly after when Bissoli perfectly controlled a free-kick over the top from Theerathon, took a second touch to evade two Borneo defenders and then coolly slotted past Nadeo.
Crispim almost added his second of the night after being picked out by Bissoli when his low effort from inside the area struck the outside of the post in the 39th minute. But Buriram then did make it three after a wonderful goal in first-half stoppage time.
Jefferson Tabinas played a give-and-go with Bissoli, running onto the Brazilian’s scooped pass before cutting the ball back from the left byline for Djalo to rifle into the back of the net from 16 yards.
Buriram remained well on top early in the second half with the always lively Tabinas bursting into the left side of the box, cutting inside and then seeing his right-footed effort deflected narrowly wide.
A Supachai header that was tipped over by Nadeo and a Narubadin effort that fizzed narrowly wide asked further questions of the Borneo defence as it seemed only a matter of time before the Thai side extended their advantage.
As the clocked ticked down, substitute Leon James drew another save from Nadeo with a side-footed effort from the edge of the area in 84th minute before the fourth goal arrived two minutes later.
Tabinas again had a huge role to play, making another lung-busting run down the left to latch on to Seksan Ratree’s through ball and square for Rattanakorn to put the icing on the cake.
The win moved Buriram up to six points from three games, while Borneo have now suffered back-to-back defeats after winning their opening match back in August.
Buriram will next travel to Singapore to take on Lion City Sailors on 23 January with Borneo facing Kaya FC-Iloilo of the Philippines in Indonesia on the same day.
