Buriram: Buriram United and Borneo FC Samarinda will both be looking for their second win in the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ as they face each other in Group B at Buriram Stadium on Thursday.

Both sides have posted one win and one defeat to begin the tournament, but with Vietnam’s Công An Hà Nôi FC and Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur City FC topping the group with two wins from two, they will be desperate for a win to keep pace.

Thai League 1 champions Buriram did not have the best of starts to the Shopee Cup as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Công An Hà Nôi in their opener at Hang Day Stadium, with Brazilian forward Alan Grafite hitting the Vietnamese side’s winner in the 66th minute.

However, Osmar Loss’ side bounced back emphatically by posting a commanding 7-0 win against Kaya FC-Iloilo of the Philippines as Lucas Crispim bagged a hat-trick for the Thunder Castle in their first Shopee Cup win.

Crispim, Guilherme Bissoli and Supachai Jaided will be among a string of talented Buriram attackers who will look to create problems for the visiting Borneo defence.

They come into the game on the back of a five-match winning streak across all competitions and beat Muangthong United and fellow Shopee Cup participants BG Pathum United in their most recent league games to increase their lead at the top of the Thai top flight to nine points after 15 games.

Borneo FC, meanwhile, are occupying eighth place in the Indonesian top division and have only posted one win from their past seven league matches, with their latest outing ending a 4-0 defeat by Persik Kediri.

The 2023-24 Liga 1 regular season winners began their Shopee Cup campaign with a 3-0 victory over Singapore’s Lion City Sailors FC as a Leo Gaucho double and a Berguinho strike secured three points in Balikpapan.

However, a 1-0 away defeat to Kuala Lumpur City in their second outing hampered their good start in September, and Pieter Huistra’s men will now hope to shake off their poor domestic form as they make the trip to Thailand.
