Pathum Thani: It will be a blockbuster ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ fixture when BG Pathum United will take on Terengganu FC in a top-of-the-table Group A clash at the Pathum Thani Stadium on Wednesday.
BG Pathum currently sit top of Group A with eight points, still unbeaten with two wins and two draws including a 4-1 away victory against Shan United FC a fortnight ago.
The Rabbits have had a busy run of fixtures recently beating Khon Kaen United 4-1 and drawing 1-1 against Nongbua Pitchaya in Thai League 1, whilst also picking up wins against Lopburi City and Tanjong Pagar United in the Thai FA Cup and Singapore Cup respectively.
A major change for BG Pathum has been the arrival of their new head coach Anthony Hudson who will take charge of his new club for the first time.
The 43-year-old American was the USA men’s national team’s assistant coach during their CONCACAF Gold Cup triumph in 2021, having been the head coach of Bahrain and New Zealand prior to that.
Terengganu FC, meanwhile picked up a crucial 1-0 win against PSM Makassar on Matchday Four thanks to a perfect penalty from Safawi Rasid.
Since the win, the Turtles have had a doubleheader against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the Malaysia Super League and Malaysia Cup losing both matches while also suffering a major blow with left back Alif Zakaria sidelined with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury on Saturday.
The Malaysian side will hope that Manny Ott and Akhyar Rashid are at their best with the duo having accounted for a combined 7 out of the team’s 10 goals in the Shopee Cup.
Surprisingly enough this will be Terengganu’s first ever competitive match against a Thai club and the stakes couldn’t be higher as the race for the semi-finals is set to go down right to the wire.
