Yangon: It’s all to play for between Myanmar’s Shan United FC and Kasuka FC of Brunei Darussalam in the second leg of the Shopee Cup Qualifying Round Play-offs on Wednesday.
Both teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan last week with Liberian centre-forward Leon Taylor giving Kasuka the lead on the stroke of half-time with a clinical effort.
The 2023 Brunei Super League top scorer Taylor proved his worth for his new club after netting 31 league goals for Indera SC prompting champions Kasuka to secure his services.
Shan United kept pushing in the second half and were finally rewarded in the 79th minute when right-back Hein Phyo Win made a marauding run and stretched to connect with the ball to draw the visitors level.
The 25-year-old Myanmar international recently returned back to his homeland from Thai League 1 side Ratchaburi FC and has already turned out to be a shrewd acquisition.
Shan returned from Shopee Cup action to Myanmar National League during the weekend with Phyo Win once again on target in a 4-2 victory against Dagon Port as they are now the only side yet to drop points in the domestic league.
On the other hand, Kasuka touched down in Yangon on Sunday and have already begun their preparations for the second leg that is scheduled to take place at the Myanmar National Stadium Youth Training Center.
The winner of this Shopee Cup tie will earn a place in Group A alongside Thailand’s BG Pathum United, Terengganu FC from Malaysia, Indonesia’s PSM Makassar and Dong A Thanh Hoa FC from Vietnam.
