Pathum Thani: PKR Svay Rieng FC will be hoping to continue their excellent start to the ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ but will face a stern test away to BG Pathum United in Group A on Wednesday.
The Thai club could only manage a 0-0 draw in their opening fixture away to PSM Makassar but with plenty of continental experience under their belt in recent times, the Makoto Teguramori led side will target their first win in the competition on Matchday Two.
Since suffering a surprise 4-1 defeat to Ratchaburi FC in Thai League 1 following the draw in Indonesia, BG Pathum have recovered in recent weeks with wins against Chiangrai United and Khon Kaen United followed by a draw against Nongbua Pitchaya.
Sunday’s 2-1 victory away from home against high-flying Port FC then made it 10 points from four games, handing their opponents a first defeat of the season.
Chanathip Songkrasin was on target against Port while Teerasil Dangda has also been in the scoresheet in their recent matches and the duo will once again be pivotal in their midweek Shopee Cup clash.
Svay Rieng, meanwhile, produced a superb performance away from home in Malaysia to stun Terengganu FC 3-2 in their Shopee Cup opener with Gabriel Silva, Pablo and Min Ratanak scoring the goals.
This was followed by a dominant 6-1 win against Kirivong Sok Sen Chey in the Cambodian Premier League. However, in the next game Visakha FC handed them a 1-0 loss but the Cambodian champions bounced back with a 2-0 success against Nagaworld FC in their most recent game with Pablo and Bounphachan Bounkong the goalscorers.
The Brazilian trio of Pablo, Gabriel Silva and Cristian Roque will be the key players for Svay Rieng as they aim to impress once again away from home against one of the most ambitious clubs in Southeast Asia.
In other Group A fixtures on Wednesday, Terengganu will host Đông Á Thanh Hóa FC of Vietnam while PSM and Shan United FC will meet with the objective of picking up their first three points at the Batakan Stadium in Balikpapan.
