The group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup™ has drawn to a conclusion, with Thailand, Singapore, Philippines and Vietnam progressing to the semi-finals.

From outstanding volleys to edge-of-the-box screamers, spectacular goals lit up the group stage, with fans treated to a whopping 70 goals across the five matchdays.

As we head into the business end of the tournament, ASEAN United FC invites you, the fans, to pick your favourite goal from an action-packed group stage below.

Abdel Kader Coulibaly (Cambodia) v Malaysia

Trailing at the break, Abdel Kader Coulibaly equalised for the Koupreys after receiving the ball from midfielder Sokyuth Kim, who pounced on a loose ball and dribbled past two Malaysian defenders with ease before cutting inside and setting it up on a plate for Coulibaly. Coulibaly then had the composure to slide in a clinical low finish past Haziq Nadzli, in what will go down as one of the Cambodians’ most famous results in the competition’s history.

Nguyen Hai Long (Vietnam) v Laos

A goal worthy of breaking any deadlock, Bui Tien Dung’s long ball from deep found its way to Nguyen Hai Long, who timed his run to perfection and unleashed a thunderous left-footed volley into the top corner to kickstart Vietnam’s campaign. Xaysavath Souvanhnasok had absolutely no chance.

Syafiq Ahmad (Malaysia) v Timor-Leste

In Malaysia’s 3-2 win over Timor-Leste their first goal was the pick of the bunch. Danial Amier’s sublime outside-of-the-foot pass over the top of the Timorese defence found substitute Fergus Tierney, who played a pinpoint cross into the box for Ahmad who arrived to volley in from close range, the finishing touch to a fine team move.

Joao Pedro (Timor-Leste) v Malaysia

Just when the game looked like it was heading to half-time at one apiece, Timor-Leste winger Joao Pedro produced a moment of brilliance. The 26-year-old exchanged a quick one-two with Claudio Osorio and raced into the box all the way from his own half, before chopping inside and curling a shot past Kalamullah Al Hafiz to finish off a stunning counter-attack.

Maung Maung Lwin (Myanmar) v Philippines

With his side under the cosh, Maung Maung Lwin gave Myanmar the lead against the run of play with a stunning set-piece. The Myanmar captain bent an unstoppable free-kick over the wall and into the top left corner, with Philippines’ goalkeeper Patrick Deyto completely rooted to the spot.

Sandro Reyes (Philippines) v Laos

Rocked by a Michael Baldisimo own goal in the first half, Sandro Reyes produced a moment of magic to rescue a point for the Philippines with 13 minutes remaining. Paul Tabinas darted down the right wing and crossed into the box. His pass found Reyes who brought the ball under his spell with an immaculate touch, switched it to his left foot before showing superb composure to find the far corner of the net.

Shawal Anuar (Singapore) v Thailand

Shawal Anuar sparked the game into life against reigning champions Thailand with a wonder goal just 10 minutes into the game. A long ball from Singapore goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud split the Thai defence and found Shawal, who plucked the ball out of the air before catching Patiwat Khammai in the Thai goal off guard with a bullet from 25 yards into the far corner, sending the supporters in Kallang into raptures.

Faris Ramli (Singapore) v Thailand

Leading 1-0, Singapore stamped their authority 20 minutes later with another strike from outside the box. Faris received the ball on the left wing and cut inside. The 32-year-old still had it all to do, but he curled home an absolute stunner into the top corner from 20 yards out to net his second goal of the campaign.

Patrik Gustavsson (Thailand) v Singapore

With Singapore two up, Thailand pegged them back in first-half stoppage time with a well-worked team goal. Despite Suphanat Mueanta failing to latch onto a deep cross in the box, the winger kept the ball in play and back-heeled it into Anan Yodsangwal’s path with the Singaporean defence all over the place. Yodsangwal picked out Gustavsson in the box, who buried the ball in the back of the net.

Nguyen Xuan Son (Vietnam) v Myanmar

Nguyen Xuan Son had a dream debut for the Golden Star Warriors with a man-of-the-match performance in a 5-0 rout of Myanmar. Having already bagged his maiden international goal, the debutant grabbed his second of the night with a wonderful solo effort. The 27-year-old brilliantly headed down a long ball to Nguyen Tien Linh’s path. After receiving the return, he left three defenders in his wake and displayed impeccable ball control inside the box before rifling an unstoppable strike into the far corner to make it 4-0.
