The third matchday of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup™ 2024 featured some heavyweight clashes and gifted the fans with some memorable results across the four fixtures during the weekend.

Singapore scored three times against Timor-Leste to maintain their perfect start and Thailand edged Malaysia 1-0 in Group A. Vietnam also registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Indonesia in Group B while the Philippines were forced to settle for a draw against Laos.

ASEAN United FC takes a look at four of the best goals from the third matchday and lets you, the fans, pick the best among them through the poll at the bottom of the article.

Shawal Anuar (vs Timor-Leste)

Shawal Anuar came off the bench and almost single-handedly guided Singapore to a 3-0 win against Timor-Leste at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi on Saturday – earning the penalty for the breakthrough in the 76th minute before bagging a double to secure the three points.

His first goal in the 83rd minute was the pick of the lot as a long ball over the top let Safuwan Baharudin break down the left wing. The fellow substitute's low cross into the box evaded Timorese goalkeeper Junildo Pereira and defenders to pick out Shawal who turned it home to double his side’s lead.

Patrik Gustavsson (vs Malaysia)

In a meeting between two former champions at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, it was Thailand who dominated against Malaysia. And their persistence paid off when they scored in the 57th minute in what proved to be the only goal of the game to hand the reigning champions all three points.

It was 22-year-old Suphanat Mueanta who created the goal as he closed down Malaysia goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli and intercepted his clearance. With his back to the goal, Suphanat laid the ball to the arriving Patrik Gustavsson who scored to make it three goals from three matches for the War Elephants.

Sandro Reyes (vs Laos)

Sandro Reyes emerged as the saviour for the Philippines as they looked for a way back into the game after they were rocked by a Michael Baldisimo own goal in the first half. And the visitors had to wait until the 77th minute to find the equaliser in Vientiane.

Philippines full-back Paul Tabinas initiated the move from his own half as he raced down the right-hand side before finding Reyes just inside the box. The midfielder moved the ball to his left foot before slotting past Laos goalkeeper Xaysavath Souvanhnasok to give the Filipinos their second draw from as many matches.

Nguyen Quang Hai (vs Indonesia)

As he often does, Nguyen Quang Hai once again created a moment of magic to help Vietnam edge Indonesia 1-0 at Viet Tri Stadium on Sunday and preserve their 100% record in Group B after playing two matches.

Quang Hai was denied a spectacular goal when he volleyed a strike from almost 25 yards out against the crossbar, but the Vietnam maestro continued his run into the box to latch onto the loose ball and score the goal that proved to be the difference between the two title-chasing sides.
