Bekasi: Thailand secured their place in the semi-finals of the ASEAN U-23 Mandiri Cup™ 2025, after they drew 0-0 with Myanmar at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium on Tuesday to finish top of Group C.

In a game of few chances, Thai captain Seksan Ratree went closest to breaking the deadlock with a second-half effort which rocked the Myanmar crossbar.

Myanmar created few openings but goalkeeper Sorawat Phosaman had to be alert late on to keep out opportunities by Sa Khant Chaw and Than Toe Aung.

The result meant Thailand finished as group winners with four points from two games following their earlier 4-0 win over Timor-Leste, while Myanmar were runners-up with two points after they were held 4-4 in their encounter against the Timorese.

Thailand will face Group A winners Indonesia in the semi-finals at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Friday, while Group B winners Vietnam will take on Group A runners-up the Philippines.

While both teams had scored four goals in their earlier games against Timor-Leste, Tuesday’s game was a cagier affair with few efforts of note in the opening half.

Thailand enjoyed more than two-thirds of possession before half-time but they managed only one shot on goal, a long-range attempt by Sphon Noiwong that caused little trouble for goalkeeper Hein Htet Soe.

Pattarapon Suksakit and Thanawut Phochai were off target with headers for the Thais while at the other end, Min Maw Oo had the best opening for Myanmar when he burst past Kittiphat Kullapha on the left byline but saw his shot deflected wide by Pattarapon.

While he had little to do in the first half, Hein Htet Soe was called into action immediately after the interval as he made a fine reflex save to keep out Songkhramsamut Namphueng’s left-footed drive before turning aside Pichitchai Sienkrathok’s header from the subsequent corner.

Sorawat was a spectator for much of the game but he had to be alert midway through the second half to tip over a 30-yard drive by Sa Khant Chaw.

Seksan nearly made the breakthrough soon afterwards when his right-footed effort flew past Hein Htet Soe but came back off the crossbar.

Myanmar tried to turn up the pressure in the closing stages to keep alive their hopes of progression but Sorawat made a good save to deny Than Toe Aung as the Thais hung on to secure their spot in the last four.
