The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has appointed Tan Cheng Hoe as interim head coach of the Malaysia national team following the departure of Peter Cklamovski.

The 58-year-old returns to the role having previously led Harimau Malaya from 2017 to 2021, guiding the team to the final of the 2018 ASEAN Championship where Malaysia finished runners-up. During his spell as head coach with the national team, Tan oversaw 40 international matches, recording 20 wins, four draws and 16 defeats.

Before taking charge of the national team, he served as assistant coach to K. Rajagobal, helping Malaysia win the 2009 Southeast Asian Games gold medal and the 2010 ASEAN Championship.

One of Malaysia's most experienced coaches, Tan also enjoyed success at club level with Kedah, winning the 2015 Malaysia Premier League, the 2016 Malaysia Cup and the 2017 Malaysia Super Cup.

After spells with Selangor FC and Thailand's Police Tero FC, Tan returned to FAM as Technical Director in April 2025. He now steps into the interim head coach role as the association prepares to announce its long-term plans for the national team.
