Phú Thọ: Australia booked their place in the semi-finals of the ASEAN Women’s MSIG Serenity Cup™ 2025 on Wednesday as Joseph Palatsides’ team handed Timor-Leste a 9-0 thrashing at Việt Trì Stadium.

Holly Furphy and Alana Jancevski both scored twice while further strikes from Grace Johnston, Emilia Murray, Leticia McKenna and Aideen Keane plus a late own goal by Brigida da Costa earned Australia a comfortable win that sets up a semi-final meeting with Vietnam.

It took the Australians less than two minutes to take the lead, Furphy heading McKenna’s free kick from the left beyond Gorette de Deus.

Nine minutes later Australia doubled their advantage when Gorette was unable to hold onto Georgia Cassidy’s low centre from the left and Jancevski pounced at close range to push the ball over the line.

Furphy claimed her second and Australia’s third on the half-hour mark with another tap-in after good work down the right from Sasha Grove, who powered into the penalty area to set up her team mate.

Johnston cut in from the left flank to hit an unstoppable right-foot shot from distance with a little over a minute remaining in the first half to give the Australians a four-goal cushion at the interval.

The goals kept coming for Palatsides’ side, Jancevski hitting the fifth in the opening minute of the second half when Gorette misread a seemingly harmless punt forward while substitute Murray scored the sixth from three yards out in the 58th minute.

Four minutes later the seventh arrived via McKenna, who side-footed home Johnston’s cross on the run from the right.

Keane set herself up for the eighth in the 79th minute, redirecting Sofia Sakalis’ ball from the left with her chest into space in the penalty area before sliding her shot beyond Gorette while Brigida poked the ball into her own net three minutes later to complete the rout.
