Indonesia international defender Rizky Ridho has been included on the 11-player shortlist for the FIFA Puskás Award for his stand-out goal for Persija Jakarta against Arema FC in Liga 1 earlier this season.

The 23-year-old has been nominated for the prestigious award named after legendary Hungarian striker Ferenc Puskás and which has previously been won by the likes of Son Heung-min, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Junior.

The goal was scored in October and came in the 62nd minute at Jakarta International Stadium.

Rizky picked up possession near the corner flag in the Persija half and, after playing the ball forward to Ryo Matsumura, the central defender drove forward to receive a return pass several metres over the halfway line.

From there, Rizky manoeuvred himself into position to bend a perfectly flighted right-foot strike over the head of rapidly back-pedalling goalkeeper Lucas Frigeri from more than 45 yards out to give Persija the lead.

While Persija would go on to lose the match 3-1, Rizky will be hoping to become the second winner of the award from ASEAN after Malaysia’s Faiz Subri scooped the trophy for his goal while playing for Penang FC in 2016.
