Haiphong: Hosts Vietnam booked their place in the semi-finals of the ASEAN Women’s MSIG Serenity Cup™ 2025 on Saturday as Mai Đức Chung’s side handed Indonesia a 7-0 thrashing to secure a top-two finish in Group A with one round of group games remaining.
Phạm Hải Yến scored twice while Nguyễn Thị Bích Thùy, Hoàng Thị Loan, Ngân Thị Vạn Sự, Trần Thị Thu Thảo and Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Ngân were also on target as Vietnam earned a win that ensures both the hosts and Thailand, who beat Cambodia 7-0, reach the semi-finals.
Captain Huỳnh Như had headed against the crossbar before Bích Thùy put the Vietnamese in front in the 24th minute when Laita Roati was unable to push her shot from 12 yards to safety.
Four minutes later the hosts doubled the lead as Hoàng Thị Loan whipped in a cross from the left that Bích Thùy missed, only for the ball to bounce inside the six-yard box and beat Laita.
Laita prevented a third in the seventh minute of the second half when she pushed Thái Thị Thảo’s shot from 20 yards over the bar and kept out Thu Thảo’s low shot through a crowded penalty area 10 minutes later.
Vietnam eventually added to their tally in the 69th minute as Vạn Sự’s corner was nodded in by Hải Yến and the fourth came soon after, Vạn Sự driving down the left before beating Laita at her near post as she mistakenly anticipated a centre across goal.
Thu Thảo hit Vietnam’s fifth with nine minutes remaining when she beat Laita to her left after the ball landed in her path after Hải Yến’s initial shot was blocked by the Indonesia defence.
Hải Yến registered her second of the evening in the 86th minute with a calm finish from eight yards out and Tuyết Ngân curled the seventh into the top corner with a minute to go.
